DESCRIPTION:College of Science & Mathematics will be hosting Dr. Jackie Ree
 d\, a molecular biologist and registered patent agent of the firm Whitham\
 , Curtis & Cook\, P.C.  Dr. Reed has graciously offered to speak to our st
 udents about her experience and career as a registered patent agent.\nShe 
 has over a decade of intellectual property management experience in indust
 ry and academia. She has extensive experience in the areas of biotechnolog
 y\, medicine\, and medical devices\, with expertise encompassing recombina
 nt DNA and RNA techniques\, design and analysis of transgenic mice\, gene 
 regulation\, translational medicine\, and clinical laboratory medicine. He
 r post-doctoral research included studies of cytokine signaling and regula
 tion of metabolic processes in pulmonary\, adipose\, and neuronal cells.\n
 Dr. Reed earned her PhD in Molecular Developmental Biology at the Universi
 ty of Cincinnati College of Medicine\, BS in Natural Sciences at the Unive
 rsity of Cincinnati\, and AS in Medical Laboratory Technology at Indiana W
 esleyan University. She was a co-founder and intellectual property manager
  during the early days of the biotech start-up now known as Intrexon Corpo
 ration. She studied patent law coursework at the University of Cincinnati 
 College of Law as a non-matriculated student before relocating to Virginia
  to work as a licensing associate at Virginia Tech Intellectual Property (
 VTIP)\, where she managed a portfolio of life science\, medical device\, a
 nd pharmaceutical invention disclosures and patents. \n Please join us in
