Independence, excitement, new friends, more responsibilities and a morning filled with emotions and smiles make up ����ԭ��’s Move-In Day.

“Move-In Day represents the true coming together of ����ԭ�� as a community to make new students feel welcomed to our campus,” said Craig This, director of the Office of Institutional Research.

Under the guidance of Residence Life and Services, Move-In Day involves students, staff and faculty welcoming new first-year students into on-campus housing. In 2016, on campus with the help of more than 500 volunteers. Move-In Day introduces students to staff and faculty they may never have gotten the chance to meet otherwise.

The Move-In Day Unit consists of Jennifer Attenweiler, Dan Bertsos, Gina Birdsall, Steven Brown, Ashley Collein, John Crawford, Kimberly Dancer, Lisa Eizenga, John Harris, Brian Jackson, Mandi Lancaster, Shana Mason, Dave Mooring, Kate Page, Lynn Pitsinger, Mark Queen, Carol Rader, Jill Rarick, Wisnu Sugiarto, Wray VanVoorhis, Mariann Weiss and Caitlin Zech.

“From entering ����ԭ�� as a freshman in fall of 2012, Move-In Day has been an event that truly brings out what is best about our great university — as what President Hopkins would say, taking students where they are and making them feel a part of the Raider family,” said ����ԭ�� graduate student Ryan Rushing.

Staff, faculty, students, alumni and retirees fill the parking lot and load golf carts with the new students’ belongings as they begin their road through ����ԭ��.

“Move-in Day is a giant ball of organized fun and friendly chaos,” said David Stoneburner, TV production manager at Computing and Telecommunications Services. “Students don’t know where they are going, parents don’t know why they brought so much, and the volunteers are there with a smile and an answer, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Move-In Unit.”
