Kristen Cochran’s recent work explores the pleasures\, absurdities\ , and banalities of labor and the symbolic implications of laboring. Her t ransdisciplinary work shape-shifts in the forms of sculpture\, drawings\, video\, and installations\, and is often composed of quotidian materials s uch as bread\, clay\, clothing\, shirt pockets\, and copper plumbing—mater ials used as they relate to the gestures\, needs\, and aspirations of huma n beings at work. Kristen Cochran is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Dallas\, TX. Originally from the Pacific Nort hwest\, she moved to Texas to complete her M.F.A. at The Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in 2010. She has exhibited her work locally\, nationally\, and internationally and has been awarded resid encies in Long Island City\, NY\, Mittersill\, Austria\, Banner\, Wyoming\ , and recently completed a yearlong residency at The Center for Arts and M edicine at Baylor Hospital’s Sammons Center for Cancer Research. Kristen h as taught extensively at universities and museums in the Dallas–Fort Worth area\, including The University of Texas\, Dallas\, Texas Christian Unive rsity\, The Nasher Sculpture Center\, and The Modern Art Museum of Fort Wo rth. Recent exhibitions include Fold Inat Lawndale Arts Center in Houston\ , Material Intensionat ex ovo projects\, The LINEat Site 131\, and Archite ctures of Aspiration (r.i.p.)at Liliana Bloch Gallery in Dallas\, TX.
