DESCRIPTION:People use the word\, “system” in many different ways – but wha
 t exactly does it mean\, and how can better understanding of systems lead 
 to better outcomes?  This presentation introduces the concepts of systems 
 and systems thinking as essential skills and powerful tools in the managem
 ent of complexity towards desired results.  The interdisciplinary roots of
  systems thinking trace back to biology\, ecology\, sociology\, and cybern
 etics.  Every workplace and job-description can benefit from this holistic
  approach to understanding\, anticipating\, and influencing the behavior o
 f interacting components whose “whole is greater than the sum of its parts
 .'The presenter\, Kevin Nortrup\, CSEP\, CPHIMS\, LSSGB\, FHIMSS\, DSHS\, 
 graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois in computer engi
 neering and has extensive experience in designing\, implementing\, analyzi
 ng\, and troubleshooting complex sociotechnical systems.  As Principal at 
 Sugar Creek Solutions\, he champions a transdisciplinary systems approach 
 to transform process-improvement into systems-improvement in healthcare an
 d in other industries.  He is a Certified Systems Engineering Professional
  and holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt in healthcare.  Kevin is a member o
 f IISE and SHS\; a Director of SEMS\, IISE-Indiana\, and ISSCSH\; chair of
