Carlo SamsonMiami UniversityAbstractAtomtronics is an em erging field in quantum technology that deals with ā€œatomic circuitā€ archit ectures of ultracold atoms\, with applications ranging from inertial sensi ng to quantum computing.Ā  An important element of any atomtronic circuit i s the capability of manipulating or guiding ultracold atoms within the cir cuit through optical or magnetic fields.Ā  For applications that require sh ort execution times\, fast manipulation of the atoms is required but can c ause degradation of the quantum coherence needed for the intended quantum application.Ā  New protocols\, called shortcuts-to-adiabaticity (STAs)\, ha ve been recently proposed to prevent quantum decoherence while allowing fo r fast quantum control.Ā Ā  In this talk\, I will discuss an STA protocol fo r the spatial transport of Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) using dynamic laser-generated potentials\, and its possible use in inertial sensing appl ications of BEC interferometers.BiographyDr. E. Carlo Samson is a JC & CE Garland Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Miami Universi ty.Ā  He received his PhD in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizon a\, where he studied quantum turbulence and quantum vortices in Bose-Einst ein condensates (BECs) of rubidium-87 atoms.Ā  Dr. Samson did his postdocto ral research work at Los Alamos National Laboratory\, where he developed a n atomic analog of SQUIDs for rotation sensing.Ā  At Miami University\, he heads the experimental BEC research group\, which is currently constructin g Miami’s first BEC machine.Event Webpage: https://wright.webex.com/wright /j.php?MTID=m8132ab7a42791df6fa5375ac4fdc498c DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20201104T132500 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20201104T143000 LAST-MODIFIED:20201103T172949Z LOCATION:Webex SUMMARY:Physics Seminar: Fast Quantum Control of Ultracold Atoms URL;TYPE=URI:/events/physics-seminar-fast-quantum-con trol-ultracold-atoms END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
