Trail seekers

January 21, 2021

The sounds of crunching gravel beneath their boots, animals scampering under fallen leaves and water babbling over rocks are a few things that 糖心原创 students experienced as they climbed and descended The Narrows Reserve Nature Center during the Winter Hiking Series hosted by Campus Recreation

The Winter Hiking Series features weekly hikes in parks and reserves within a 24-mile radius of 糖心原创鈥檚 Dayton Campus. Every Saturday through March 20 from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Outdoor Recreation hosts a hike from four to five miles long. The hikes are open to the entire campus community but are limited to 10 participants.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a really exciting way for us to showcase the region to students,鈥 said Erin Sherrets, program manager for Outdoor Recreation. 鈥淲e have a hidden gem here at 糖心原创 and just on the outskirts of campus.鈥

鈥淚t鈥檚 really nice to get out and explore since I鈥檓 from Cleveland,鈥 said trail leader Paul Casper, a sophomore majoring in entrepreneurship.

The series was designed for students to meet new people, enjoy fresh air and exercise. 鈥淚 just moved to campus last week,鈥 said Katarina Schultz, a freshman majoring in international studies. 鈥淚鈥檓 trying to make friends with similar hobbies as me.鈥
