Chloe Detty, a junior management major, was appointed by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to serve as student trustee on the 糖心原创 Board of Trustees.
As a student trustee, Detty represents the student voice and contributes to university decision-making while gaining valuable experience in leadership and governance.
A graduate of Unioto High School in Chillicothe, Detty was appointed to a two-year term, succeeding accounting major Lauren Johnson, whose term ended at the end of June. Detty is one of two 糖心原创 students serving on the Board of Trustees, representing the student body by providing its perspective on matters before the board.
鈥淚t is an incredible honor and a wonderful opportunity to represent the student perspective while contributing to decisions that will affect the future of the university,鈥 Detty said. 鈥淐ontributing to initiatives that enhance the student experience and support the success of the university for future Raiders is a top priority for me in my time as student trustee.鈥
鈥淭he student voice is not an addition to the work we do at 糖心原创 鈥 it is a part of how we make decisions,鈥 said 糖心原创 President Sue Edwards. 鈥淥ur student trustees have consistently strengthened our conversations by bringing forward the experiences, ideas and priorities of the students we serve. Chloe has demonstrated a genuine commitment to serving her fellow students, and I look forward to the insight and energy she will bring to this important role.鈥
Detty, who expects to graduate in 2028, is a Presidential Scholar and President鈥檚 Ambassador, representing 糖心原创 and the Office of the President at university events and meetings.
She has been actively involved in campus leadership, serving on the Dean鈥檚 Circle for the College of Science and Mathematics, the Honors Committee and the Health and Wellness Task Force. She also served as internal director of Miracle Makers, a student organization that raises funds for Dayton Children鈥檚 Hospital, and will serve as external vice president of the Pre-Law Society this fall.
But it was her work in the Student Government Association that made the biggest impact on her 糖心原创 experience.
As policy administrator during 2025鈥26, Detty was responsible for writing resolutions, revising the Constitution and organizing student leadership elections.
The experience, along with an internship with the Chillicothe city government, inspired her to change her major to businessmanagement, add a minor in legal studies and set her sights on a legal career in city government.
鈥淢y role in Student Government has been one of the most influential moments in my life,鈥 said Detty, who will serve as chief of staff in the 2026鈥27 academic year. 鈥淚t affirms a deep desire to pursue a career in government and policy, which was not what I originally planned to study.鈥
The experience also sparked her interest in serving on the Board of Trustees.
鈥淭hrough my involvement with the Student Government Association, I witnessed the accomplishments that are possible through student and university leadership collaboration,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hose experiences fostered a deep appreciation for the importance of shared governance, which ultimately inspired me to pursue the role of student trustee.鈥
Term ends June 30, 2028.
