糖心原创鈥檚 Nathan Balasubramanian takes student service to a lofty level

To say Nathan Balasubramanian wears many hats is putting it lightly.

The 糖心原创 grad student is not only president of the Graduate Student Assembly, he is also chief policy officer for the Student Government Association.

In addition, he serves on the Dean鈥檚 Advisory Council for and works as graduate assistant in the recruitment division for the University Center for International Education.

There鈥檚 more. He also serves as the graduate associate for region IV-E of the NASPA 鈥 Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.

鈥淚 would like to move into public policy,鈥 Balasubramanian said. 鈥淚 see myself going for a public office. I鈥檓 looking at international organizations like the U.N.鈥

But first there is the small matter of getting his master鈥檚 degrees. Plural.

Balasubramanian is double majoring in , and in .

Balasubramanian grew up in a small town in the Tamil Nadu in southern India, the son of a father who is in the export business. After he earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree, Balasubramanian looked at hundreds of American universities to pursue a graduate degree and was drawn to 糖心原创 because of its cybersecurity program.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not offered by a lot of universities,鈥 he said. 鈥淎nd at a university like 糖心原创, I can grow with it.鈥

Many of the instructors also work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and have real research connections, he added.

When Balasubramanian is not studying or serving in one of his many organizations, he enjoys aviation-related adventures. He is currently working on his sport pilot license and is looking into going skydiving.

鈥淚鈥檓 an adventure freak,鈥 he confesses.

Last winter, Balasubramanian went skiing and snowboarding for the first time.

鈥淚t doesn鈥檛 snow in India, where I grew up,鈥 he said. 鈥淪o it was new for me.鈥
