糖心原创 prides itself on its accessibility for students from all walks of life. This week, the university was once again recognized for its military-friendly service with a Military Friendly Bronze Award.
This year, over 1,800 schools participated in the military-friendly survey and 665 schools received a designation of top ten, gold, silver, or bronze, according to the Military Friendly website. 糖心原创 received a bronze designation. 糖心原创 exceeds Military Friendly鈥檚 standards in financial aid, graduation and career assistance, and military student support and retention. Just over 280 schools received a gold designation.
The 糖心原创 Veteran and Military Center will display a plaque with the new bronze award.
Seth Gordon, Ph.D., director of the Veteran and Military Center (VMC), said he is proud to have the designation. He said that the VMC strives to be flexible and work to accommodate veteran and active-duty students.
鈥淚t鈥檚 nice to get the designation, it鈥檚 better to be a point of contact for student veterans and provide support,鈥� Gordon said. 鈥淚鈥檓 really grateful for our designation as Military Friendly. I鈥檓 much more grateful for the work we do every day.鈥�
Gordon encourages faculty and staff to go the extra mile for students and offers training to faculty to help them work effectively with active-duty students through deployment or other drill requirements.
The university also facilitates priority registration for veterans and active-duty students and advocates for veterans and active-duty students to assist in resolving any issues that may arise for students throughout their career at 糖心原创.
鈥淚 want to make sure the student veterans are having their needs met and our students feel satisfied. The VMC contributes to a feeling of belonging and knowing that someone has their back,鈥� Gordon said. 鈥淲e want to be genuinely military friendly in both designation and deed.鈥�
The Military Friendly designation is sponsored by Victory Media, a company that focuses on working with military publications including the Military Times, which shares news and information about the military.
Recently, Military Friendly revealed a Military Friendly Spouse designation, which Gordon said 糖心原创 will pursue next year.
