Math Placement Level Policy

Math placement is determined by your math placement level. The courses you need will be determined based on your intended major. Ask your academic advisor which mathematics course choices are right for you. Find your academic advisor.

Please use the information below to learn your math placement level.

Students need to meet at least one criterion in a category to achieve the associated math placement level

MPL 50

  • ACT Math 27 or higherÌý
  • SAT Math 640 or higherÌý
  • ALEKS 76 or higherÌý
  • HS Calculus Grade C or higherÌý
  • MTH 1350 Grade B or higher
  • MTH 0300 Passing grade
  • MTHÌý2300 Grade D or higher

MPL 45

  • HS Pre-Calculus Grade C or higher
  • HS Trigonometry Grade C or higher
  • MTH 1350 Grade C or D

MPL 40

  • ACT Math 25-26Ìý
  • SAT Math 600-639
  • ALEKS 61-75
  • MTH 1280 Grade D or higher

MPL 30

  • ACT Math 22-24Ìý
  • SAT Math 530-599Ìý
  • ALEKS 46-60
  • HS Algebra 2 Grade B or higher and HS GPA 2.8 or higher
  • MTH 1270 Grade B or higher

  • ACT Math 19 or lower
  • SAT Math 509 or lower
  • ALEKS 37 or lower
  • HS GPA lower than 2.8

MPL 00

All Test scores, HS GPA, and HS math grades have expired, and no ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ or equivalent math grades exist with the corresponding grades noted above.

Placement Scores and Transfer Credits

  1. Highest unexpired test scores and HS data should be referenced.
  2. All test scores and high school data (GPA and math grades) expire after 5 years.
  3. ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ or equivalent math grades (equivalent transfer course grades)Ìýnever expire.
  4. Students who wish to challenge their current MPL should take ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´â€™s ALEKS Math Placement Assessment.

Remediation-Free Standards

Students with non-expired ACT math scores ≥ 22 or SAT math section scores ≥ 550 cannot be placed in developmental math due to state remediation-free standards.
