Mission
To support 糖心原创 veteran and military-connected students in reaching their educational and professional goals by:
- Efficient utilization of their educational benefits
- Access to expanded academic support services and dedicated advocacy
- Developing the career and leadership skills to transition to the career of their choices
- And to facilitate fellowship and community among all student veteran and military-connected individuals.听
Vision
To make 糖心原创 an environment where veterans and military-connected students feel like they belong.听
Facilities
The Veteran and Military Center (VMC) occupies a 4,500-square foot facility in 131 Allyn Hall. Of that, 1,800 square feet are听dedicated to a student study and lounge area.
The VMC provides:
- Seating for up to 50 students at a time
- Dedicated key card Access from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Transfer of Entitlement students will have access from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Free printing
- Free coffee
- Computers (9)
- Quiet study room
- Team study room
- Conference room (must be reserved)
- Cable TV access
- Kitchenette with refrigerator,听microwave, and hot and cold filtered water
- 24 lockers for daily/monthly usage (first come/first served)
- A mini-STAC (Student Assistance Technology Center) for multi-media production
- Mobile white boards
- Bulletin boards
Who can use the VMC Student Center?
- All students who use some version of GI Bill庐 benefits will be granted automatic usage. Transfer of entitlement students are granted access from 6 a.m. to听6 p.m.
- U.S. Armed Services听veteran or military-connected students (active duty, National Guard, Reservists) who are not using GI Bill benefits are welcome to use the VMC student center. Please come by with your DD214, military ID, or proof of service to request access.
History
There has always been a veterans'听office鈥攖ypically one person听who processed GI Bill benefits鈥� at听糖心原创. In the fall of 2010, the establishment of the Post 9/11 GI Bill led to a 300 percent increase in the number of students using the GI Bill at 糖心原创.
The desire to expand the Office of Veterans Affairs was both an institutional and student concern. At the institutional level, a large committee was formed to begin to address the needs of student veterans. At roughly the same time, in the Fall Semester of 2012, two students gathered more than 3,000 signatures to present to the president鈥檚 office, requesting that 糖心原创 establish a Veteran and Military Center.
The Veteran and Military Center opened in 2013 and the VMC student center in 2014. The VMC听has been focused on expanding services for veterans, reservists, active duty, and national guardsman. We have expanded the full-time staff;听provided expanded programming focused on networking, career development, and academic success; and begun to deliver a veteran-only orientation.
